Cardinal Rose is Cocomofo’s formal introduction into their sonically cinematic universe, a 12 track album that serves as a guide for where music is heading. Drawing inspiration from Herbie Hancock, Little Dragon, Stereolab and Hiatus Kaiyote, Cocomofo is totally uncompromising in the scope of their creative vision. Interstellar sax lines, tactical drum rhythms, impossibly fat bass riffs, swelling synth melodies, all foiled by tender french-accented vocals whispering sweet introspective nothings – a perfect example of how the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts. The band members have traveled long and far to form Cocomofo, from the Middle East to Paris, Spain and the US, but their inner compass unanimously points in the same direction: onward and upward.
